Essential Oils for Sore Throat

in / undefined by .

It's the early in the fall season to start preventative measures to brace the cold weather. Don't take the winter halfheartedly when you have a stressful job and you know your immune system is weak. Take a few of these essential oils to stock up in your medicine cabinet to stop your cold and soothe your sore throat.

Thyme

Thyme oil is one of the strongest antioxidants and antimicrobials known, and it has been used as a medicinal herb since ancient times. Thyme supports the immune, respiratory, digestive, nervous and other body systems.

A 2011 study tested thyme oil’s response to 120 strains of bacteria isolated from patients with infections of oral cavity, respiratory and genitourinary tracts. The results of experiments showed that the oil from the thyme plant exhibited extremely strong activity against all of the clinical strains. Thyme oil even demonstrated a good efficacy against antibiotic-resistant strains. What a sure bet for that scratchy throat!

Peppermint

Peppermint oil is commonly used for treatment of the common cold, cough, sinus infections, respiratory infections, and inflammation of the mouth and throat, including sore throats. It’s also used for digestive problems, including heartburn, nausea, vomiting, morning sickness, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), cramps of the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract and bile ducts, upset stomach, diarrhea, bacterial overgrowth of the small intestine, and gas.

Peppermint essential oil contains menthol, which provides a cooling sensation and a calming effect to the body. Research indicates that the antioxidant, antimicrobial and decongestant properties of peppermint essential oil can help alleviate your sore throat. Menthol also helps to sooth and calm sore throats as well as thin mucus and break up coughs.

Lemon

Lemon essential oil is known for its ability to cleanse toxins from any part of the body and is widely used to stimulate lymph drainage, to rejuvenate energy and purify skin.

Lemon oil is derived from the skin of the lemon and is excellent for sore throats since it is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, high in vitamin C, increases salivation and helps keep the throat moist.

Eucalyptus

Today, oil from the eucalyptus tree appears in many over-the-counter cough and cold products to relieve congestion. The health benefits of eucalyptus oil are due to its ability to stimulate immunity, provide antioxidant protection and improve respiratory circulation.

Originally referred to as “eucalyptol” by the scientific community, the health benefits of eucalyptus oil come from a chemical now known as cineole, which is an organic compound shown to hold astounding, widespread medicinal effects — including everything from reducing inflammation and pain to killing leukemia cells! It’s no wonder it can be one of the steps to beat a cold and sore throat.

How To Use Essential Oils With Steam Inhalation

Add 3-5 drops of each of the preferred oils of your choice to a large bowl of boiled water.
Drape a towel over your head to create a tent over and around the bowl.
Relax and breathe in the fragrant steam for 5 minutes. Of course, be careful not to burn yourself.

Risks of Essential Oils for Sore Throat

Make sure you are using therapeutic grade essential oils for sore throat pain. Inhaled or topical use of essential oils is generally safer than oral use. Never ingest any essential oils or apply undiluted essential oils to the skin without proper training or medical supervision. It is critical to understand how best to use essential oils.

Always consult a specialist and conduct a patch test before proceeding with caution as essential oils may react differently for different individuals. Infants, children, pregnant women, seniors and people with severe illnesses should not use essential oils internally except under the supervision of a physician. If pregnant, check with a professional before using essential oils externally on your body as well.

If your sore throat is severe or lasts longer than one week, seek medical attention.

You can help eliminate some bad habits and substitute good habits by detoxing everyday. See what you can do within a day and try all 4 within a week.

1. Filter water
We are primarily made of water and we use it everyday. Most tap water has contaminants that are harmful after long exposures so its a good idea to your filter water to be drinking. A simple water filter pitcher can do the trick for you to even taste the difference. If you drink distilled or reverse osmosis filtered water, add a pinch of pink Himalayan salt to about a liter to replenish the minerals back.

2. Avoid Plastic
There are new water bottle that are labeled as BPA-free but do you know the harmful effects it actually causes? Before we had it in every plastic thing that was made from baby bottles, food containers, water bottles and even the inside of canned foods. It is formulated to make plastics stronger and prevent metals from corroding. Now there are BPA-free labels yet this is only to be substituted with a different plastic. Some experts have claimed to harm are our hormones, the levels of our cell repair and more. It's already restricted in the EU and China in products made for babies and young children but not on all products. Try using glass as much as you can or any natural biodegradable solutions.

3. Eat Broccoli And Cruciferous Vegetables
Cut or chop them at least 40 minutes before cooking to maximize intake of photonutrient sulforaphane, which boosts detoxifying enzymes in the liver. For the time crunch, mix cooked and raw vegetables together. Broccoli, cabbage and kale are the most popular of the cruciferous foods but you can try something new on the list. Not only does it help your liver, they also can replenish more of your gut microbes. Bring red peppers, blueberries and sweet potatoes to add color and flavor to your green meals, plus they have a lot of antioxidants. Always try to implement a healthier lifestyle to get the best source of energy from your food especially by color.

4. Social Media
We've talked about what you can do for you body but what about your mental health. Most people today look at their phones as the first and last thing each day. Count how many times you pick up the phone to get on social media and try to reduce that by 25% the next day. Don't try to limit yourself, just be conscious of how many times you do it. The more you start to notice when you reach for your phone, you might think twice about it after knowing what your doing. We all want to take a break from our stresses and we revert to social media as a hide away but in reality, the effects might be worse! You either spend more money and more time to items that are not beneficial to you. Less is more for social media, especially at night. Try to alter you habits by writing a to-do list, stretching or reading a book or magazine right before bed. Excercise Tips

    in / undefined by .

Whether you are experienced or a newbie, your body always needs a change in routine. Try some of these tips to integrate into your workout.

    Jump Rope
Bringing a high intensity cardio in short sprints can help define and tone your body more than you know. The easiest way to get into the skip is to jump 3-5 times with the rope and then stop. Training your eyes, hands and body will help pick up the your pace. By doing short intervals, you can build up a tolerance and your skill. Once you get into the flow, you can keep counting your skips and then transition to 30 second intervals or longer.

    Isometric Holds
For these movements, you just need your own body weight to hold for 5 to 10 seconds. Some of these exercises are planks, wall squats and push ups. You would want to hold your pose for the push up at the lowest position and hold your squats at a 90 degree angle. If you have the option, using a bar try to hold your pull up with your elbows at a 90 degree angle. Doing this before your workout can help target specific muscles without overtraining.

    Foam Roller
To prevent injury during a workout, try to foam roll your body in target areas to increase blood circulation. Just like a warm up and cool down, foam roll your body before and after each workout  can reduce soreness. Its a great option as a massage tool even if you aren't exercising.

    Circle Stretches
Simple circular movements with your hands, arms, legs, hips and ankles are more beneficial than you would think. We either sit all day or stand up for to long and our joints are not able to get the same range of motion like when we were younger. Just 10 circle clockwise and counter clockwise can be a start. Stretch as often as you can so the body won't get locked into one range of motion. Don't limit yourself to one stagnant exercise. Your body can do a lot of miraculous things if you keep striving.

Spending Time Alone To Improve Your Mind

    in / undefined by .

Social events can sometime feel like obligations and the work place is another daily drain. We pressure ourselves to always be around others whether we like it or not. Overtime, a build up of emotions and thoughts can create holding tank that's waiting to exploded. Its a mental drain when you have high stress and if you don't know how to handle it. A great solution is to take out your "Me Time" everyday. Its a daily practice all of us should set aside time for and here are a few ideas how.

    Meditation

We have heard this word every where but its the practice of meditation that makes the difference. As long as you are mindful of the events around, you can practice anywhere. You don't necessarily have to have your eyes closed and sit on the floor, its about being aware of your thoughts to let it come and pass. There are multiple ways to meditate but for starters, its nice to be by yourself to keep away from distractions for 5 minutes to not think of anything. The more often you practice the easier it is to focus on your happy feelings, positive goals and steps to brightening up your day.

    Reading

Take your mind away from the daily grind with some reading. Cuddle up with a fantasy novel to escape or an educational self help audiobook. Your attention on reading a book or listening to an audiobook is fully focused on one thing instead of multi-tasking. You can stream line your thoughts and start to articulate better when reading books. Make sure there are not any distractions around so you can fully focus on the words of the book. This can easily lower your cortisone levels within minutes after starting to read.

    Walking

We know exercise is important to maintain your overall health. Take a brisk walk around the block or jog to the end of the street. The movements and blood flow can help bring your health glow back. The time of the walk should not matter, try to use "finish line" markers instead. Achieving a goal is a good distraction for your mind. Instead of saying "I'll just walk for 15 minutes", say "I will walk around the block twice before I head home". Those 2 blocks can be shorter than the 15 minutes and the mini goal you just made will give you a confidence boost and a sense of accomplishment.

    Taking A Bath

Think of this as a water submerged meditation. You are alone and free to think and feel how you want to. As long as the negative thoughts are not the majority of your bath time, take as much time as you need to get away from the world to relax. When your thoughts and feelings are consuming you, visualize your thoughts on a blackboard so you can them wipe away. You can even write it and wipe them away in the water. This is just an act that you can do for stresses and anxiety that has been bothering you. The end goal is to make sure that you leave your bath feeling happier and relaxed.

FEBRUARY: The Shortest Month Of The Year

    in / undefined by .

February is the month to experiment and challenge yourself because there are only 28 days. Think of those 30 day challenges and your monthly goals you've been wanting to do or haven't finished. We all want to achieve our goals and we all want to quit sometimes. These are some simple tips you can remind adjust to your needs for this month.

    Plan Ahead

Write is down, type it out, visualize it, you get the point. Having a goal shouldn't be on a to do list, it is the plan of action that should help you get towards your goal. Write it down every where, set reminders and emails to yourself, put a vision board together to see it every day. The more reminders you have the more attempts you will work towards it. For example, set a timer every 2 hours so you can stand up to drink a glass of water.

    Take Action

The best way to accomplish a goal is to take action. It doesn't have to be perfection to achieve a task. Remember that you can modify your plan of action in the way you need to, just keep your goals in mind and don't quit. The hardest step is the simply the first step. Once you've taken the first step, the second is the easier and the last step is easiest. In no time you will get rolling into a routine.

    Motivation

Send your goals to some friends to see if they are interested in doing the same challenge and develop a support group. They can hold you accountable when you don't want to, they can help you stick to your goals and even find hacks to overcome the challenges. You can motivate yourself and the group by using social media for inspiration. Use your Instagram and Facebook to follow influencers that align with the goals you have in mind. Make a board on Pinterest specifically for your goal and pin quotes, articles and pictures to keep you inspired. Print a collage that you can hang on your mirror, next to your bed or on your desk a work. The positivity from these messages of your support group and pictures will help you strive to your success.

    Reflect

Mark a weekly time frame to reflect about your progress and analyze what your did or didn't do. We can make excuses all we want but don't lie to yourself. Be honest and truthfully in what you need to do and why you didn't do it. If you've notice a habit that prevents you from reaching your goal, analyze it and ask yourself a few questions. For example: How can I modify my actions differently today compared to last week? Should I make a new plan for the same goal? What can I do extremely different to reach my goals?

    Don't Give Up

Its the last week and you are so close to the home stretch and all you keep thinking about is quitting. That's the last thing you should be telling yourself! Remember that you set your goals and you have to accomplish them. These are your possessions and nobody should take that away or tell you that you can't have it. You have to remind yourself (with your vision board) why you wanted to start and what you have gained from it. There is nothing better than the sense of accomplishment when you did it all for yourself. The lessons we learn from each goals we set are so valuable in our happiness and confidence. Don't let your mind wander away from what you deserve. It's hard to have a goal and finish it, otherwise its just called a dream.

    Avoid Detox Pitfalls

    in / undefined by .

When you can't see results on weight loss diets, it might be that you weren't cleansing your body of toxins in the process. With the combination of malnutrition, stress and toxins, your body struggles harder to lose weight. Detoxing your body is a process that takes effort and understanding of your body's needs. Here are a few tips to avoid the early days of detox pitfalls.

    Quit Too Soon
Toxin build up can be so large that expelling it from your whole body clogs up the liver. Because of that you won't get the immediate results you are looking for, hence, the huge want in quitting. Every one is different and you have to listen to your body. Easing in more vegetables, whole foods instead of processed foods and taking supplements can aid in your detox routine to give you the results your are seeking.

    No Probiotics
Gut health is very important for detoxing and regular health. When you can't flush any thing out, it is a sign that toxins can break free in the intestine and recirculate through the body. To avoid constipation, take more fiber and probiotics. Eating fermented foods can also help in adding more healthy gut bacteria. This can really help your immune system and overall flow of energy you need.

Not Enough Vitamin D & Magnesium
Vitamin D is required in your body but can also be very low during the winter season. It's easier for women to have low levels of vitamin D when going through colder seasons. It really is a precursor to a steroid hormone.  You can naturally get it from the sun
Many people don't know that they are magnesium deficient. It's a key nutrient to help our bodies regulate our cellular health, organs, hormones and diseases we may have. It's a powerful anti-oxidant that actually regulates other vitamins and minerals absorption. One symptom of having magnesium deficiency is fatigue. Detoxing your body can drain your body of important nutrients, make sure you put it back with key vitamins to help your body for optimal health.

    Bloating
You can really start changing habits when you start listening to your body. Bloating can be a symptom that tells you are intolerant of a certain food. Just remind yourself of what you ate and do your best to avoid that specific item. If it happens more often, start by making a list of what foods you are triggered by and what effects it has on you.

    Craving Harmful Foods
We all have the urge to indulge in sweets and the cravings of junk food. You just need to remind yourself of the end goal and what you want to accomplish. The cravings might not ever go away but you have the will power to walk away and say no. Don't worry what other say or how much you "need" to have a bite, just know that its mind over matter. You need to stay disciplined and consistent to really get the best result and the best you.

Many of us are always running around busy in life and are always finding time saving tricks. Having a meal replacement is an easy option to aid in losing weight and keeping full.

    Protein Vs Carbs
Reading the nutrition labels on everything you put in your body should be a habit to your weight loss goals. Protein intake is just as important as you counting calories. It's optimal that the grams of protein in your shake is higher or equal to the amount of carbohydrates. This will help you feel fuller longer and prevent you from having side effects of a "sugar crash".

    Supplement With A Salad
If you struggle on taking your supplements, grab a small salad in addition to your shake. This combination can fuel your body with good nutrients and can help reach your weight loss goals. Just remember that the calorie intake of the shake and salad should be around the same.

    Use Them As Backup
When you are so busy that you don't have time to grab lunch, use a meal replacement as the  alternative. It's a better option than that bag of crisps in the vending machine or the venti latte that has double or triple of the calories. One tip is to time your normal lunch meal and sip your shake to the amount of time your would take to eat a meal.

    Shake Snack
When you have a hangry moment, bring out a protein shake to attack that attitude. Keep in mind of your blood sugar level when drinking theses meal shakes. Your energy levels might need a boost but try to stay away from the added sugar.

    Fuel Your Workouts
Drink half of a meal replacement 30 minutes before the gym and the other half afterwards. If you're lucky, try this during your lunch break to make a dent on your weight-loss goals. When you do this, the body can absorbs the nutrients faster from the shake quicker since your body is expelling its energy.

These 5 tips can help improve your energy levels and your metabolism. Try to plan one or all of these tips in your daily routine to see the increase in your work, physical activities and your focus.

    1. Sleep
Getting the recommended amount of sleep ranges between 6-8 hours a night. Set up an alarm to go to bed just as if you are able to set an alarm to wake up. If you have a nightly routine, allow that blocked time before you set your alarm to go to bed. Try winding down with some mediation music, reading a book or a warm bath. Once your body gets the rest it needs, you will feel energized and peppy in the morning.

    2. Morning and Night Fabuloss Tea
Just a simple tea in your morning routine can improve your mood and energy. Fabuloss tea is able to aid in your fast pace lifestyle by a quick brew bag to go or at home. Follow up with our night teatox to start your journey to a new awakened you. Our set is designed to help you flush out your stress and worries so you can be the best vibrant person you can be.

    3. Vitamins
Do you feel groggy through out your mornings and need tons of caffeine to stay awake through out the day? Try taking a multi-vitamin in the mornings before your coffee. The vitamin B-12 helps boost energy, memory, digestion, your focus and so much more. When taking it in the morning your body can absorb the vitamins the fastest on an empty stomach and utilize some of the lacking vitamins like iron and magnesium so it can balance out your system.

    4. Exercise
Whether it is a few sun salutation in the morning at home or a full body work out at the gym, something is better than nothing. Research shows that 30 minutes a week of exercise helps maintain your metabolism. If you are really crunched on time, 10 push ups and 10 jumping jacks should really kick start your routine. Once you've mastered 10, try to increase the exercise by 1 every week. This gradual process will keep your goal in mind and your body in shape.

    5. Eat A Healthy Breakfast
Studies show that eating breakfast promotes a healthy weight and weight loss, emotional resilience and longevity. Breakfast stabilizes your blood sugar which helps stop hunger, cravings, and boosts your metabolism. A balanced breakfast of protein, fat and sustaining carbohydrates can benefit your metabolism and boost your energy.

Prepare your day with these smart snacks tips to keep your tummy happy and full.

Eat Healthy First - If you pack fruits or veggies in your bag, you're likely to snack on it. You're even more likely to eat them if you dress them with your favorite dip or with peanut butter. Just make sure your dips are a portioned out correctly.

Pack In Protein - Research shows that having protein can keep you fuller longer. Pack a protein shake ready to go, keep some boiled eggs in the fridge for a quick breakfast, or keep your left over chicken around when you get hungry.

Bring A Mini Meal - If you really want to save some money, bring your leftovers as a snack. Portion out a quarter or half the size of your usual meal and snack on it in the middle of the day.

Forget The Chips - Instead of walking through the chip aisle, try going through the refrigerator case to see different snacks. There's plenty of options like hummus and carrots, prepacked deli meats, yogurt and diced fruit ready to go.

Read The Bar Signs - Snack bars are so convenient but can be packed full of sugars. Don't be mistaken! Look at the nutrition labels and find bars with more protein, less ingredients and less sugar.

How to Start and Stick with an Exercise Routine

    in / undefined by .

Our fourteen days body cleanse makes it possible to lose weight without exercising. However, if you want to maximize the effectiveness of your cleanse, and sustain the positive momentum that your cleanse provides, you should make exercise a part of your weekly routine.

Although you know that exercise can help you stay slim and tone your entire body, your past workout attempts have always found a way to fall off track. While it’s frustrating to think about past letdowns, the good news is they don’t have to dictate your future. You can start exercising and actually stick with your routine. All you need is the right plan to put you on the path to success:

15 Minutes is Better than Nothing
One of the biggest reasons why so many people have trouble sticking with a workout routine is because they bite off more than they can chew. If you try to go from not working out at all to completing multiple 2 hour sessions a week, it’s only a matter of time until you start to feel overwhelmed.

Instead of thinking of exercise as something that has to be perfect, just start with anything. If you can’t remember the last time you exercised, today can be Day #1 by doing something as simple as going for a fifteen minute walk.

You Don’t Have to Go to a Gym
Gym owners are the only people who think working out can only be done in an indoor space. If just the thought of going to a gym and spending an hour on a treadmill makes you cringe, don’t do it! From joining an outdoor boot camp to doing bodyweight exercises in your backyard, you can make your workouts exactly what you want.

    Variety is Your Friend
Another reason most people simply can’t stick with a workout routine is because they get bored. Although they’re highly motivated when they start, the boredom that results from following the same routine during each and every session eventually depletes all of their enthusiasm.

The good news is you can avoid this problem by embracing variety. In fact, not only will regularly changing the style and structure of your workouts keep you from getting bored, but it will also prevent you from hitting a fitness plateau.

Missing a Workout Isn’t the End of the World
There are going to be days when something unexpected happens and you simply cannot find time for a workout. Because there’s no way to avoid these occasional off-days, you should never feel guilty about them. Just as importantly, you need to avoid making the common mistake of thinking that one missed day ruins your progress.

Instead of allowing one missed workout to snowball into a week and eventually a month of inactivity, make a conscious decision to get back on track the very next day!

What Happens If You Don’t Drink Enough Water?

    in / undefined by .

Over half of your body is water. When you stop and think about the complex nature of the human body, it's quite amazing that so much of it is made up of the same thing. Because your brain, muscles and blood are all between 75% and 90% water, it's not surprising that we all need plenty of water on a daily basis. While not having access to water can be fatal, the situation doesn't have to be that extreme for you to be impacted. Even slight dehydration can have a wide range of effects. If you don't drink enough water, you may experience:

Fatigue: People try all sorts of tricks to boost their energy throughout the day. From cups of coffee to huge energy drinks, everyone wants a magic cure that's going to allow them to keep their energy at a peak. What they don't realize is their lack of energy may actually be the result of not drinking enough water. Because so much of your body is composed of water, if you aren't taking in enough, it can quickly lead to you feeling fatigued. So instead of reaching for another cup of caffeine, you can get the energy you need by grabbing a cold glass of water.

Hunger: Although you may think you're hungry, there's a good chance that you're actually just thirsty. Because the signals your brain sends for hunger and thirst are so similar, it's quite easy to confuse them. Luckily, you can solve this issue by making a point to consistently drink water throughout the course of your day. Also, when you drink water throughout a meal, you won't have to worry about overeating. The reason is you'll give your digestive system enough time to work and alert your brain that you should feel full.

Dry Skin: As with the rest of your body, water makes up a significant percentage of your skin. While you may think that you need to spend money on expensive moisturizers if you want your skin to look great, staying hydrated can actually go a long way towards preventing you from experiencing the unpleasant effects of dry skin.

Trouble Concentrating: Whether you're at work or in class, you want to be able to focus on the task that is in front of you. One of the most frustrating situations to find yourself in is being unable to concentrate despite wanting to do so. Because water plays a crucial role in the way your brain functions, proper hydration can actually help you stay on task.

How Much Water Do You Actually Need?

Since there are so many downsides to not getting as much water as you need, you're probably wondering how much you should drink on a daily basis. According to medical experts, women should drink nine cups a day, while men should have thirteen. Although that may seem like a lot, if you start carrying a reusable water bottle, you'll find that not only is it easy to hit that target but doing so will result in you feeling truly healthy and vibrant!
